Half-Day Preschool at Boulevard, Elwood Haynes, Lafayette Park, and Pettit Park

The Kokomo School Corporation 1/2 day preschool program is designed to prepare children for success in kindergarten and beyond by providing opportunities for the physical, social, emotional, and academic growth of each child. Kokomo Schools believes that an early investment in our children is critical to the future of our community.

  • Half-day sessions are from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and/or 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Parents must provide transportation. The half-day program is federally funded with free tuition for students living in the Kokomo School attendance area.
  • Kokomo School Corporation also offers a full and half day program for students living outside the attendance area through a tuition based program. Federal guidelines state that Title I funding can only be used for those students living within the attendance area.

The preschool program at all sites is staffed with certified teachers. The children are exposed to scientific, research-based early childhood curriculum at all sites.

Head Start (Tuition Free)

Head Start is a federally funded program that serves children of low income families and/or children with disabilities. Families must meet federal income guidelines to qualify for Head Start. The Howard County program is housed at the Darrough Chapel Early Learning Center (900 S. Goyer Road) and is an Indiana State licensed Early Childhood Center. The local Head Start program has earned the highest rating in Paths to Quality, a Level 4 and is NAEYC accredited.

Teachers at Head Start are state licensed and trained in early childhood education. Transportation is provided to and from school. Nutritious meals and snacks are provided daily, while the local Head Start also incorporates an exercise program called GAMO and a Food Groupie Education.

Health services ensure that all enrolled students have all required immunizations, medical, dental, speech, hearing, and vision screenings. Each classroom is staffed with a teacher and a paraprofessional. Social Service Family Advocates work inpidually with families to set and achieve goals.

The local Head Start offers full day classes. To qualify for the full day option, parents must be: working full-time, attending school full-time, or a combination of both. Parents are encouraged to apply to Head Start if there is a possibility that the family qualifies for the full services Head Start can provide. Full Day Co-Pay at Lafayette Park International Elementary

The full day preschool program at Lafayette Park promotes inquiry, exploration, and discovery while exposing children to an internationally minded thematic curriculum. This inquiry-based program stimulates creativity, encourages curiosity, and develops the skills necessary to be academically successful in future school years. The thematic educational activities are age appropriate with the goal of developing the many talents of the preschool child.

The full day preschool program at Lafayette Park International Elementary School (919 N. Korby Street) is open to all children living in the Kokomo School Attendance Area with a co-payment for the additional half day($3,000.00 per year with monthly installments of $300.00) and open to students living outside of the attendance area with full tuition ($5,500.00 per year with monthly installments of $550.00). The full day program is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Payments are due a month in advance and may be made with money order, check, or credit card. Parents must provide transportation.

An extended day option 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. is available for a yearly fee of $1,080.00 payable in monthly installments of $108.00.

Full-day Preschool at Elwood Haynes

The full-day parent co- pay preschool program at Elwood Haynes Elementary, partially funded through Title I is designed to prepare children for success in kindergarten and beyond by providing opportunities for the physical, social, emotional, and academic growth of each child. The second half of the day is funded through tuition of $3,000.00 per year with monthly installments of $300.00.

This program is staffed with teachers with certified teachers and a highly qualified Instructional Para. The children are exposed to academic, physical, and social skills through a project based learning approach that emphasizes inquiry, exploration, and discovery. Research supports the fact that this early start on education gives children a firm foundation for kindergarten and future success in school.
